CIUD, a Civic Society Organization, established in the year 2002, has been working vigorously for sustainable urban solutions to support and compliment government's effort as well as its own initiative to tackle urban challenges. To achieve its goals, it has mainly been foucsing on the following areas -
Community Based Urban Management
CIUD has been woking with various cummunities for the management of Urban Sector. Its main focus has been on developing ways to utilize various water resources (eg. rain water) and also to control water waste. It has made efforts to bring public awareness and has also worked with partner organizations to implement water system in various area all around the valley.
Sustainable Development of Poor Settlement
CIUD has worked with several projects to study and understand the present senario of poor settlement. The studty included idetifying informal settlements, accessing physical conditions of the selected squatter settlements and proposing appropriate follow-up actions for improvement and further investment.
Mapping the Poor
The organization has worked individually, and with partner organizations to map the poor and propose effective solutions to uplift their present conditions. It has worked on peri-urban settlement, focusing mainly on the present condition of Siddhipur and Tigni in Thimi Municipality.
Disaster Management
A part of developing the urban sector is to make it strong enough to withstand disasters, including natural calamities. CIUD has been making efforts in heritage conservation and bringing awareness as to how to deal with earthquakes should it occur, among other things.
Research for Sustainable Development
CIUD has always carried out various surveys and studies to understand the present scenario and indetify potential areas which need to be uplifted. CIUD has a strong database and GIS, backed by scholars of various faculties with the help of which it can effectively carryout the researches it undertakes.
